I have always been into art. As a child my family knew that they could never go wrong in gifting me a new coloring book. As I grew older my parents enrolled me in local art classes ranging from paper mâché projects, sculpting and cartooning. When I started university I found new ways to keep art in my life. Most notably my contributions and management for the art/literary magazine on campus, Blueprint Magazine. Not only did I get to publish my writing, pictures and artwork, but I also got to help design the issues and shape it's social media presence. In my spare time, I incorporated the more hands on aspects of visual arts and over the years I have resorted to painting as being that outlet. No teachings or lessons, the work that I produced was always somehow self-taught and whenever I told someone it took me 4-6 hours they were shocked. They would say they wouldn't have the patience but for me the hours never seemed to drag and my frustration never seemed to rise. Since being in the Public Relations program I was able to immerse myself even more into the creative aspects, specifically graphic design. Similar to painting, it was as though I could spend hours in front of my laptop doing website design or making creative content for print and social media without getting bored. I could keep working on something until I felt like it finally looked how I wanted it to. If that took hours, and meticulous detail and effort it didn't matter. I loved the feeling of accomplishment I got once I was able to step back and present it. |
